You can explain how you make professional judgments without handing over an employer's report or a client's spreadsheet. Start with a short experience note: what you did, what you checked, and why your decision mattered.
This is general preparation advice for experienced professionals considering AI evaluation work. It is not guidance for any provider's assessment, a statement of application requirements, or an assurance of acceptance.
Describe the judgment, not the private file
Choose one task you can discuss without disclosing protected information. Explain your own responsibility rather than claiming credit for the whole team's work.
A useful note answers: What were you trying to check? What made an answer acceptable? What did you do when the evidence was incomplete or inconsistent?
For example, if it truthfully describes your work: "I checked whether a summary matched its supporting evidence. When a conclusion lacked support, I flagged it for review rather than filling the gap myself." Keep names, internal figures, unpublished findings, and identifying details out. Only include outcomes you can honestly support.
Use invented material if an example helps
If the explanation needs a concrete illustration, build a small example from scratch using invented data and label it "fictional demonstration." You might show a made-up table whose totals do not match its written summary, then explain how you spotted the discrepancy.
Do not copy an internal document and change the names. Removing a logo or a client's name does not establish permission to share the remaining material. Avoid screenshots, comments, file metadata, and distinctive project details that could expose the original work.
A fictional demonstration shows your approach. It does not prove you held a role or achieved a real-world result; keep those claims separate and truthful.
Leave restricted evidence out
Before attaching anything, check the obligations that apply to you, including confidentiality agreements and employer or client policies. If permission is unclear, leave the material out. Do not upload it to an AI tool to rewrite or anonymize it.
Your next step is one short experience note using only information you are allowed to share. Keep any fictional illustration clearly labelled. A provider may ask for different evidence; use its official instructions, and seek clarification if a request appears to conflict with your obligations.
